What the cash rate means for youVariable business loans, overdrafts, lines of credit and many commercial property loans move with the cash rate. When the Reserve Bank changes it, most lenders pass on the change within a few weeks. Your rate depends on the lender, the loan and your circumstances, not just the cash rate.
What bond yields mean for youFixed-rate loans, including most truck, equipment and fixed commercial loans, are priced off what lenders pay to borrow for that term. The 3-year government bond yield is a good guide. When it rises, fixed rates on new loans usually follow, even before the cash rate changes.

Rates are moving. Find out what you could borrow and which lenders suit your business before you commit.

Our take: what the latest decision means for business borrowers

Updated 3 October 2026. On 29 September the Reserve Bank lifted the cash rate by 0.25 percentage points to 4.60%, its fourth rise this year. Variable-rate business loans, overdrafts and lines of credit usually reprice within weeks. Fixed-rate truck, equipment and vehicle finance you already have isn’t affected, but new quotes will reflect higher funding costs. For commercial property, lenders assess repayments at higher rates, which can reduce how much you can borrow.

If you’re planning to finance equipment or refinance in the next few months, it can pay to lock in approval and pricing before lenders reprice. Check your options or call our team on 0450 745 757.
