Check your optionsHow this calculator works. Fuel tax credits are claimed on your business activity statement. For fuel used in heavy vehicles travelling on public roads, the credit is the fuel excise less the road user charge. Fuel used off public roads, or to power a heavy vehicle's auxiliary equipment where you can work out the amount, can be claimed at the higher "all other business uses" rate. Fuel used in vehicles of 4.5 tonnes GVM or less on public roads isn't eligible. Heavy diesel vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1996 must meet environmental criteria, such as following a maintenance schedule or passing an emissions test.
What it doesn't cover. LNG, CNG and other gaseous fuels, blended fuels, fuel used for private purposes, and non-business claims. GST credits on fuel are claimed separately. Keep records such as fuel tax invoices, log books or GPS data to support your claim.
Important. This calculator is general information only and isn't tax advice. Rates change in February and August each year, and sometimes at other times.
